This weeks presentation consisted “the eloquence of scribes: initiation, expectations and mastery-continuing the legacy of Howard University”. This presentation talked about Egyptian scribes with papyrus scroll. An account of Barley rations written on clay is preserved till this day. It was from 2350 BC. An example of a scribe is this medieval scribe. This scribes name was Jean Mielot. He was a European author. He worked during the 15^th century. Genreal Oliver Otis Howard once said “The rights of the freedman, which are not yet secured to him, are the direct reverse of the wrongs committed against him. I never could detect the shadow of a reason why the color of the skin should impair the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." These passionate words of wisdom provided by general Howard earned him his own bui8lding on this campus. I myself have passed by the building visible from Georgia Ave. and wondered what it was. But im glad to have finally figured out thanks to this presentation. Next, we talked about a character named Mordecai Wyatt Johnson. He talked about war prejudice and how it is the root of all evil for all democracy. He also talked about how we are struggling for our own decency in life. We have the a gate named after this man. He has a gate in front of the Administration Building. This gate id made out of red brick and iron fro the gate itself. To represent the school of social work we have Inabel Burns Lindsay. She established the school and became the first dean of it in 1945. She was the dean for 22 years.
